I'm a Headband Newbie

Hi everyone! I hope you are all having splendid weeks.

I have an extra long weekend - off work today and tomorrow as well as the weekend! I'm pretty excited about this, seeing as the weather has been absolutely gorgeous these past couple of days and I would much rather not miss the sun while I'm inside working.

Aaaaand today I wore a headband for the first time in what feels like decades. (Probably just a couple of years, but still.) I never used to wear headbands much, or any hair accessories for that matter. But in this past year I've started wearing accessories like bows and pretty clips. And now, headbands.

It's always fun trying out new hairstyles every now and then! Plus this headband (one I found buried under years of random clothing items) happened to match my shirt perfectly. So a win-win, really.

You can probably tell I'm a bit low on blog post ideas when I devote one entirely to a headband.... It's been a slow week idea-wise. More interesting things to come, I promise!

April Favourites

Hi everyone! It's May, yay!

April was a very interesting month - it was my last month of university, so the majority of my time was spent studying for finals, which is just as fun as it sounds.

I did, however, pick up some favourites throughout the month, naturally!

Music-wise, I absolutely fell in love with Andrew Belle. Look him up, please do! His songs are gorgeous, and I find they're all very relatable as well. My favourite on this particular album - Black Bear, his most recent - is called Pieces. Beautiful song.

My next favourite:
Lily Collins & her flawless eyebrows

Filling in eyebrows. On a side note I don't think Lily Collins fills hers in, but she has flippin amazing eyebrows, like, just look at them. I've been filling my eyebrows in for a while now, but started doing it more often in April, just because I really do enjoy how easy it is to do it once you get the hang of it.

Aaaaand lastly:
Crop tops. Shown above is one that I actually own, I bought it at Forever 21 for about 10 dollars. A couple months back I was completely determined to enlarge my nonexistent collection of crop tops, and since then I have. I have a couple basic ones, and a couple nice floral ones that I adore. I love this trend, especially now that the weather is improving!

So those are some of my April favourites! What are some trends you are enjoying this spring?

Rainy Sunday

Hi everyone! I hope you all had wonderful weeks.

It's Sunday, it's raining, and I'm nice and cozy listening to some indie music. It's really creating this excellent feeling in me.

The playlist I'm listening to, very aptly named "That Sunday Afternoon Feeling," is right here if you're curious. Truly lovely.

And here is my look for today:

Lipstick: RIMMEL Lasting Finish Liptick in "Just So."
Eyeshadow: COVERGIRL Eyeshadow Quad in "Lionqueen."
Eyeliner: ALMAY Intense I-Color Liquid Liner
Eyebrows: ALMAY Brow Defining Pencil

Had some fun with button-up shirts today as well! Found at Old Navy
Good bye for now! May you all have lovely beginnings to your weeks.

Online Shopping Wishlist

Hey everyone! It's Thuuursday. And as I've spent the last hour or so browsing stores online instead of studying, I thought I'd share some of my finds with you!

Wishlist.

  1. Sedu Pro Ionic Ceramic Tourmaline Flat Iron. I've been wanting a new flat iron for a while now, yet want to do lots of research and such before I decide on one! I've heard amazing things about this Sedu flat iron.
  2. Iced Coffee Date Wedges from Modcloth. These shoes are so cute. A pair of wedges like these are just what I need for the spring and summer!
  3. Food Stylista Dress from Modcloth. I absolutely adore Modcloth's selection of dresses. One day, after I've accumulated a decent amount of money, I feel I must go on a Modcloth dress buying spree.
  4. Warm Palette from Coastal Scents. So. Many. Colours. Plus it's on sale right now! That must be a sign!
  5. Tortoise Shades from Satterday. A new pair of sunglasses is high on my list right now, and this pair is adorable. Definitely keeping my eyes open for a similar pair when I next go shopping.
There is my wishlist! SO many cute things available right now. What are some online stores you enjoy perusing?

September Favourites

Wow, hello everyone! It's been a while, eh?

I have really no excuse other than the fact I've been CRAZY busy settling into university. But now it's been a month, I'm getting used to the homework load and living in dorm, so I feel like I can begin regularly updating again. And what better way to start it off with a good ol' favourites post?

Favourite Clothing Item:
Steve Madden boots
$50.00
I got these boots while searching for "sensible university shoes" for my long walks to class, and have not been disappointed! They are comfortable and go with basically any outfit. I don't think they'll perform particularly well in heavy rain, but hey, that's what rain boots are for.

Favourite Cosmetic:
Eos lip balm
$3.00
A basic cosmetic, but an awesome one. I got the summer fruit flavour, which smells INCREDIBLE. The lip balm itself applies smoothly. I definitely want to get my hands on more flavours.

Favourite Music:
I Choose You by Sara Bareilles
I picked up this song (for free!) at Starbucks, where it was featured in one of the Pick of the Weeks. And okay, it is the most adorable, feel-good song. It's lovely! I adore Sara Bareilles' voice, and continue to enjoy her music.

A rather short post, I apologize, but my chemistry homework is calling my name. I hope you all are having lovely weeks, and I'll get back to you soon!

What are some of your September favourites?

A Handful of Things

Hello everyone!

I have been in and around the city many times in the last couple of weeks and have therefore got a wonderful amount of shopping done. Most has been for university - dorm room items and such - but I have managed to squeeze in a little bit of more personal shopping as well. Here are some things I have purchased!

From American Eagle, on sale for $20
Mighty Wallet for $18
Tear and water resistant, 100% eco-friendly
And the inside - Postcard themed
Body Butter from the Body Shop, 3 for $12
Hazelnut, Grapefruit, and Satsuma
Brown leather waist belt, $28
Burberry Body Tender perfume
Back-to-school shopping for essentials ain't so much fun, but I do enjoy stocking up on things I don't really need so much as want. I have been getting a ton of awesome and adorable dorm room necessities, though, which I will soon share!

Have a lovely weekend!

Today.

Hello everyone!

Today I went on a university shopping trip with my mum, which was EXTREMELY successful. I managed to find shoes, a couple shirts, a skirt, and bedding for my dorm room. I'll most probably do a dorm room haul at some point in the future. There is SO much I still need to get, but I am very excited to move in to my room.

Today's outfit
Here's what I wore today. I felt pretty proud of this outfit; I've recently begun experimenting with different textures, and really like some of the looks I've come up with, this being one of them, a Dex dress with an Old Navy button-up shirt over top. I slipped on favourite pumps and I was good to go.

Botanic Body Butter
I also cracked open this Pomegranate Botanic Body Butter that's been lying around in my room for ages... I just finished a wonderful lemon-scented one from the body shop and was glad I didn't have to go far to find another. I absolutely love body butter, I don't know what it is, but it's definitely one of my favourite things to have! This particular one has a lovely fresh scent and a creamy, velvety texture. Love it.

I hope you all are having lovely weekends! Feel free to post any thoughts or questions below.

July Favourites

A bit late, I know! I've been so busy! But here it is: July favourites.

Favourite Shoe Purchase:
American Eagle Javelin Oxford
I bought these beauties a little while ago, and I am in love. They are super comfortable, cute, and go with just about anything! They were $50, but I got them at a student discount for $45.

Favourite Clothing Purchase:
American Eagle Classic Rinse Skinny Jeans
I've been looking for a new pair of simple, classic skinny jeans for a while, and when I heard American Eagle was having a jeans sale, I jumped at the opportunity. I absolutely love American Eagle jeans - I think every pair I own is from that store! This pair is no exception; they fit exceptionally well, are comfortably stretchy, were only $30.

Favourite Music:
The Paper Kites Woodland EP
I bought this EP by The Paper Kites, and I am so glad I did. Their songs are soothing, clever, and just feel-good in general. If you're a fan of indie-acoustic, I would definitely recommend them. I bought the EP for $4.99 on iTunes.

Favourite Cosmetic:
Burberry Body Perfume
Does perfume count as a cosmetic? I'm going to say it does, because I am so excited about this perfume. I got a small sample of it and absolutely adore the scent - it's light, fresh, and makes me feel like running through a field of daisies. I am trying currently to get my hands on a full bottle.

The Long and Short of it

This post is going to be all about... SHORTS!

I've been looking for new shorts that are a decent length - short enough that I don't get too awful of a tan line, but long enough that I don't feel as if I'm wearing underwear - and it's been a surprisingly difficult thing! I did find a pair at Winners the other day, a pair of plain grey cut-offs, but I'd like to find more. I decided to stop browsing storefronts and start browsing the internet.

Here are some of my favourite picks so far:

Those are some of my favourite shorts of the summer! What styles of shorts do you like?

WISHLIST: Closet Staples

There are always those couple of clothing items that you just couldn't live without - for me, right now, that's my plain black cami and turquoise cardigan. There are, however, a few items that I am in dire need of! Unfortunately, clothes that you NEED are always way less fun to buy than clothes that you WANT. But hey. It's gotta be done, I suppose.

  1. Plain black flats. I have coloured and patterned flats, but have yet to buy a pair of simple black ones - ones that will go with any outfit, everyday or dressed up. I just get so drawn to colourful shoes!
  2. Black & white v-necks. I feel as if some good simple fitted v-necks will be an excellent asset to match with high-waisted skirts or colourful cardigans. Another boring one... maybe I'll go for solid coloured ones instead, then at least it's a COLOUR :)
  3. Skinny jeans. Now, this one may be a bit trickier. I used to have the best pair, but they got all worn from the dryer. So now I'm hunting for another pair or two, but I'd forgotten how tricky it is to find a pair that fits well, especially on my rather short legs! I plan on visiting American Eagle, they always have awesome jeans.
  4. Shoulder shrug. Just one of those cropped, short-sleeved cardigans that can be worn in the summer. Do any of you have recommendations for where these can be found?
  5. And lastly, more nerd clothing. Not a necessity, I suppose, but enlarging my geek clothing collection would be a lot of fun! Maybe some nerdy skirts? A shirt or two?
And that's my nice and boring wishlist! I have other wishes, of course - things like pleated skirts and floral dresses and high heels - but it is important to stock up on the boring necessities once in a while. It's just so much more fun to shop for things you want, not need. Oh well!

What are some clothing items you just couldn't live without?

Successful Friday!

Hello, everyone! How are things? Good, I hope!

I had a brief but GOOD shopping trip yesterday. A couple friends went shopping for the day, me included, and while I couldn't stay for the entire time, I did manage to get a couple hours of solid shopping in. I didn't buy many things, but I found things that I had been wanting for a while, so I'm happy!

First of all, I bought a jean jacket, which is something that has been on my wishlist for a while. I found one at H&M, and I'm very happy with it! It was $38. It's medium wash and vaguely distressed, and I feel like it'll be a good thing to have when all I need is a light cover.

Photo credit to the H&M and Forever 21 websites, respectively.

Another thing I bought is a pair of patterned flats. I have a decent shoe collection, but am very low in the flat department! I bought these at Forever 21 for $15, and I don't think they'll last more than a year of good use, but I don't mind, since they were so cheap! I will definitely use them a lot in the summer.

Lastly, and most excitedly, I got my own laptop! AHHHHHH! I am blogging to you all on it right now! It's a Sony VAIO. 14" screen. 16GB. i7 core. It's WONDERFUL. My dad surprised me yesterday by going to pick it up on our way home from shopping. Just in time for university next year!

Speaking of Dad, he's just convinced me to do some yard work today. So it's time for me to wrap up. Bye! Have a lovely weekend!

Style Inspiration: Charlotte Charles

I've been feeling INSPIRED. I've been feeling inspired by Charlotte Charles, AKA Chuck, from the (wonderful) show Pushing Daisies.

Chuck has this adorable vintage style going on. In every episode, she's wearing a new and adorable dress. Am I wanting to dress/be like Chuck? Yes. Yes I am.

I mean, not only is her style great, but she gets NED, possibly the most adorable man ever to be on television ever.

Anyway, back to the fashion. Chuck has that retro style that I love, and have seen in places like Modcloth and Piperlime and the like. It's a style I would love to begin working towards, maybe even just beginning with some vintage heels.

So yes, that is who has been inspiring me lately! I'm almost finished with season one of Pushing Daisies, very sad that there are only two seasons. I will just have to find another show to fill the gap when I'm done. Or maybe actually get caught up with Game of Thrones for once!

Who are you feeling inspired by? Any show suggestions? Feel free to leave any thoughts below!

May 3rd Shopping

I went shopping today! Much fun!

It was beautifully sunny, first off, which just made it that much better! Instead of staying inside the mall all day, we walked outside and checked out all the cute little boutiques. Tons of stuff to be seen!

Another pleated skirt to add to my closet!
I bought another pleated skirt, which I'm really excited about. I have one, and love thin pleats like this! I absolutely love the colour as well; it's this gorgeous turquoisey blue colour. (You can click on the pictures to enlarge.)

I also bought a Pride & Prejudice v-neck t-shirt which I LOVE. It has this pretty feather design on the front... I think it may have been an edition of the book at some point, it seems like it could have been! It's awesome. I love it.

One high-class cat!
And, of course, another pin. How could I not?! We went into this FANTASTIC store that's basically all stationary and journal and book related, and I found so many cute two dollar things that I ended up spending, like, twenty-five dollars. Small things add up! I bought an adorable, dapper cat pin, and also found a card for my dad for his birthday, a card for Mother's Day, and a journal for my mum for Mother's Day. (Let's hope she doesn't see this post!) The journal is so cool - there were all these differently themed journals. The one I got her was music, because that's her passion, but there were book-themed ones, photography-themed ones, you name it! Basically, every few pages, there's a little inspirational quote about whatever theme the journal has. Super cool.

I was tempted to buy a journal for myself as well!
And, of course, we ate some marvellous food! We had lunch at an awesome, classy tea-and-pastry place, indulged in Purdy's chocolates, and ended the day with floats and milkshakes. Will I be eating nothing but vegetables for the next week? Yes. Yes I will.
Gorgeous antique design!

All in all, a lovely day! I hadn't gone shopping in MUCH too long, so it was nice to get that out of my system. Plus, the weather was absolutely perfect for the day, which just added to the overall summery feeling that strolling around downtown was giving me.

I hope you all have wonderful weekends!

Mail from MODCLOTH

For at least two years, I have had some serious Modcloth.com envy... I'd spend ages scrolling through the clothes and books and kitchen supplies, falling in love with item after item. Since I first set my eyes upon that glorious website, I dreamed of ordering my first item from them.

And that day has come, my friends. That day has come, and it is just as wonderful as I dreamed it would be.

Okay, enough with the theatrics. Let's get UNBOXING.

Modcloth - doing the near impossible and making wood print work
My mum picked the box up from the post office when she went into town, and all I could think during the entire day was "oh my goodness when I get home I can unwrap my gorgeous and fantastic Modcloth package ahhh AHHHHHH!" Needless to say, near the end of my day, concentration was pretty out of the question.

My order came in this adorable wood-patterned box, with a cheerful "Hello there!" on the side. Even Modcloth's BOXES make me feel happy.

So tempted to keep the box
I opened the box slowly, wanting to preserve it's prettiness and the feeling of anticipation I was having. When I opened it, this adorable "Pleased to meet you! Now let's have some fun" was on the inside flap. Modcloth, how are you so cute?!

Inside the box was another box, the one that held my prize. At this point, I was pretty antsy. I said goodbye to cautiously opening the box to preserve prettiness and tore right in.

I am so in love with these shoes.
AND HERE THEY ARE.

My FLAWLESS "Proudly Posh" Modcloth heels. Very first Modcloth purchase. I am honestly all smiley just looking at that picture there.

And the awesome part is, they basically fit! I was a bit nervous about ordering online because of sizing, but I was thrilled to find that they are only off by mere millimetres. I'm sure insoles will fix the problem.

The shoes also came with two extra heel treads, just in case yours break or become worn. The shoes themselves are T.U.K., where I will definitely also be browsing in the future, as they have some cool shoes!

This was my first and hopefully not my last Modcloth purchase! I am very pleased with packaging, condition of the shoes, and how quickly they arrived. High five, Modcloth!

And only TWO DAYS left in the week. Hope you're all having good ones!

April Attire

So we are entering week two of April 2013. Time flies, hey? I personally am already beginning to look forward to summer, and every now and then I have to remind myself that yes, there are good things in these silly mid-months too. It's just difficult sometimes to get out of that can-the-holidays-just-get-here mindset!

For now, I'll drown my April melancholy in dreaming about clothing. Time well spent, I know.

Now, it's a bit too far into spring to be dreaming of scarves, since the weather is beginning to warm up now, but this scarf was too fantastic to resist.

Even just posting this picture made me excited! LOOK AT IT! I mean, yes, it's pretty blatantly Sherlock, which is part of the reason I love it so darn much. I only have one other Sherlock-related clothing item. That is so not enough!

The shop that makes these on Etsy is brilliant - they make the fabric themselves! Scarves, skirts, aprons... I highly recommend you check them out if you're a fan of Sherlock, LOTR, Game of Thrones, you name it! Here's a link. Use it.

Personally, I find browsing Etsy to be one of the most fun yet heartbreaking things to do. Fun because it's so great seeing all these amazing things people have created. Heartbreaking because I yearn for so many things I will most likely never own. I still do it, though, and always feel inspired by the talent and workmanship that goes into it all!

On the topic of APRIL, it has just begun absolutely pouring outside. "April showers" is so accurate it hurts. And that leads me to the utter NECESSITY of the month: a good and sturdy raincoat. Preferably a bit fashionable, too. I am in dire need of one of these.

Actually, that's not necessarily true. I do have an excellent raincoat, but I feel as if I bought it back when my style was vastly different from what it is now, you know? And plus there are so many lovely designs out there. I am personally a fan of the belted-waist type.

This one here is a London Fog belted, hooded raincoat available at Macy's. I am a massive fan of the bright colours they have available, though I feel like I'd probably end up buying a black or grey for ease of matching. Maybe I will splurge on one of these for next year.

Scoping out raincoats makes me think of new shoes, which makes me think of expanding my heels collection, which makes me think of more skirts and dresses to wear with said heels. Buying new clothes is a chain-reaction, people. A dangerous one at that.

But hey, still going to do it. If the weather has the nerve to force you into wearing a raincoat, it might as well be one you feel fantastic in.

So that's what I had to say, basically! I apologize for the blandness of this post. I found myself wanting to write a post but not having anything exciting to say, and this just came out. I tried to wrangle some sort of topic out of it, and I suppose it semi-worked, but still. SORRY.

On another note, my buddy Huyen and I are going to be doing some DIY shenanigans soon, so I'll definitely be writing something on that! On our various failures, battle wounds, finished products. Sometime next week, probably.

And on to week two!
