New Shoes

Hello everyone!

Yesterday I went shopping downtown, and though the main purpose of the trip was finding presents for the holidays, I did manage to find a new pair of boots as well. I've just been in such a shopping mood lately!

ELYTA Ankle Boots - ALDO
I bought these boots at ALDO yesterday, on sale for $39.98. The boots have a slight heel, about an inch and a half or so. They also came in black, and a green-brown colour.

These boots are incredibly comfortable, and I think they will go with practically any outfit. I am very pleased with them!

I also did manage to find some Christmas presents yesterday! I was hoping to find some cute, cheap decorations for my dorm room, but I'm still looking. I'll keep you all updated!

I hope you all had lovely weekends!

What I'm Listening To

I DID IT AGAIN, I'm sorry! I promise to be more consistent!

I've discovered SO many good artists this month and felt I should share. Here are a couple of my favourites!

The Head and the Heart. Suuuuch beautiful music. My friend introduced me to them a little while back, and sent me an earlier EP, and I instantly fell in love with their music. If you enjoy really gentle acoustic/indie, I'd highly recommend giving their songs a listen.

Smallpools. Earlier this month I attended a Walk The Moon concert (which was ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE, and I was going to add them to this list too but I think I've already mentioned them a couple of times already) and these guys were one of the opening bands. Super interesting sound, and very enjoyable to listen to live. Upbeat and lively.

The 1975. I've been listening to them for a while now, actually, but have yet to get their CD or any of their EP's. I really, REALLY want to see them live, though, I think they would be absolutely incredible. Again, more lively and energetic, with lots of great vocals and fantastic drum beats.

So there is a little preview of some of the music I've been immersing myself in this past little while! Uni has been so busy but I do try to make time for music.

I hope you all have lovely weeks, and I'll talk to you again soon (I promise!)

First Month at Uni

Hello everyone! First of all, I do have a twitter, so if you do as well, please check it out and follow if you like it! It's mostly personal-type tweets. Here it is.

Now onto the main topic of this post: a little bit of an insight into what my first month of my first year at university has been like. If I were to sum it up in one word, that word would be busy. But so exciting and different and incredible.

I am in the Science faculty, so I'm taking courses like Biology, Chemistry, Calculus, etc. I'm really enjoying my courses so far, but am certainly nervous about midterms, which start next week. It all is very different from high school, though. A lot more independence, a lot more stress, and a lot of new experiences. I meet new people every day and have made tons of new friends. It's all very different and very exciting.

I have been relying pretty heavily on chocolate/tea/skittles to get me through the missing-my-family-and-friends-and-boyfriend part of things, but other than that, I have been having the time of my life. And I even managed to get away from studying for a bit yesterday and took some pictures of the beautiful campus.

I just loved the way this building
looked with the dappled sunlight.

There is my university experience so far! Really, I have no complaints, other than the lack of sleep, the lack of money, and the sudden change of weather from gloriously sunny to bitterly cold. But I'm adapting, and so far, things are going swimmingly.

September Favourites

Wow, hello everyone! It's been a while, eh?

I have really no excuse other than the fact I've been CRAZY busy settling into university. But now it's been a month, I'm getting used to the homework load and living in dorm, so I feel like I can begin regularly updating again. And what better way to start it off with a good ol' favourites post?

Favourite Clothing Item:
Steve Madden boots
$50.00
I got these boots while searching for "sensible university shoes" for my long walks to class, and have not been disappointed! They are comfortable and go with basically any outfit. I don't think they'll perform particularly well in heavy rain, but hey, that's what rain boots are for.

Favourite Cosmetic:
Eos lip balm
$3.00
A basic cosmetic, but an awesome one. I got the summer fruit flavour, which smells INCREDIBLE. The lip balm itself applies smoothly. I definitely want to get my hands on more flavours.

Favourite Music:
I Choose You by Sara Bareilles
I picked up this song (for free!) at Starbucks, where it was featured in one of the Pick of the Weeks. And okay, it is the most adorable, feel-good song. It's lovely! I adore Sara Bareilles' voice, and continue to enjoy her music.

A rather short post, I apologize, but my chemistry homework is calling my name. I hope you all are having lovely weeks, and I'll get back to you soon!

What are some of your September favourites?

A Handful of Things

Hello everyone!

I have been in and around the city many times in the last couple of weeks and have therefore got a wonderful amount of shopping done. Most has been for university - dorm room items and such - but I have managed to squeeze in a little bit of more personal shopping as well. Here are some things I have purchased!

From American Eagle, on sale for $20
Mighty Wallet for $18
Tear and water resistant, 100% eco-friendly
And the inside - Postcard themed
Body Butter from the Body Shop, 3 for $12
Hazelnut, Grapefruit, and Satsuma
Brown leather waist belt, $28
Burberry Body Tender perfume
Back-to-school shopping for essentials ain't so much fun, but I do enjoy stocking up on things I don't really need so much as want. I have been getting a ton of awesome and adorable dorm room necessities, though, which I will soon share!

Have a lovely weekend!

Today.

Hello everyone!

Today I went on a university shopping trip with my mum, which was EXTREMELY successful. I managed to find shoes, a couple shirts, a skirt, and bedding for my dorm room. I'll most probably do a dorm room haul at some point in the future. There is SO much I still need to get, but I am very excited to move in to my room.

Today's outfit
Here's what I wore today. I felt pretty proud of this outfit; I've recently begun experimenting with different textures, and really like some of the looks I've come up with, this being one of them, a Dex dress with an Old Navy button-up shirt over top. I slipped on favourite pumps and I was good to go.

Botanic Body Butter
I also cracked open this Pomegranate Botanic Body Butter that's been lying around in my room for ages... I just finished a wonderful lemon-scented one from the body shop and was glad I didn't have to go far to find another. I absolutely love body butter, I don't know what it is, but it's definitely one of my favourite things to have! This particular one has a lovely fresh scent and a creamy, velvety texture. Love it.

I hope you all are having lovely weekends! Feel free to post any thoughts or questions below.

Updo of the Day

Hello everyone!

So the hairstyle I'm going to share with you today is super easy and would most probably work on a variety of hair types, though I myself have wildly curly hair. It's really just a good way to get your hair out of your face, though in a slightly different way than the usual pinning the front bits back. So here you go!

Start with your hair all wild and free (I used second-day hair... please excuse the frizz and general unruly look it has) . This curly updo is a really great way to get that top-layer frizz tamed while still enjoying your hair free from a ponytail or bun.

Starting at your part, twist front sections of your hair back on either side and gather at the middle of the back of your head.

Take the two chunks of hair you just gathered and secure to your head with bobby pins. Then, twist the hair into a bun, pinning as you go.

And there you go! Very simple and easy half-up bun. Feel free to let me know below if you tried it and how it worked for you!

July Favourites

A bit late, I know! I've been so busy! But here it is: July favourites.

Favourite Shoe Purchase:
American Eagle Javelin Oxford
I bought these beauties a little while ago, and I am in love. They are super comfortable, cute, and go with just about anything! They were $50, but I got them at a student discount for $45.

Favourite Clothing Purchase:
American Eagle Classic Rinse Skinny Jeans
I've been looking for a new pair of simple, classic skinny jeans for a while, and when I heard American Eagle was having a jeans sale, I jumped at the opportunity. I absolutely love American Eagle jeans - I think every pair I own is from that store! This pair is no exception; they fit exceptionally well, are comfortably stretchy, were only $30.

Favourite Music:
The Paper Kites Woodland EP
I bought this EP by The Paper Kites, and I am so glad I did. Their songs are soothing, clever, and just feel-good in general. If you're a fan of indie-acoustic, I would definitely recommend them. I bought the EP for $4.99 on iTunes.

Favourite Cosmetic:
Burberry Body Perfume
Does perfume count as a cosmetic? I'm going to say it does, because I am so excited about this perfume. I got a small sample of it and absolutely adore the scent - it's light, fresh, and makes me feel like running through a field of daisies. I am trying currently to get my hands on a full bottle.

California Adventures!

Hello everyone! Long time, no see!

For the past week, I've been in California with my family. We went to Disneyland for three days, then spent a day driving down the California coast, which was gorgeous. I had an amazing time soaking in the sun, going on rides, and generally eating badly for a week. Here's some pictures of our adventure.

California Adventure!
Mickey Mouse himself in Frontierland
Grad 2013!
We watched the Jedi training, which was adorable and awesome.
Paradise Pier at night.
We were all really excited about the massive Californian beaches... we truly are small-town folk
It was a lovely week! Now we're back to the real world, blah. At least the weather is nice!

The Long and Short of it

This post is going to be all about... SHORTS!

I've been looking for new shorts that are a decent length - short enough that I don't get too awful of a tan line, but long enough that I don't feel as if I'm wearing underwear - and it's been a surprisingly difficult thing! I did find a pair at Winners the other day, a pair of plain grey cut-offs, but I'd like to find more. I decided to stop browsing storefronts and start browsing the internet.

Here are some of my favourite picks so far:

Those are some of my favourite shorts of the summer! What styles of shorts do you like?

Nail of the Day: Essie's Turquoise and Caicos

Hello everyone!

I know I haven't made a post in a while, things have been quite busy! But I had a relaxed moment today and decided to write a post for you guys. So here's my take on Essie's Turquoise and Caicos nail polish (one of my favourites!)

Turquoise and Caicos is a really lovely, summery colour. And, as always, the Essie nail polish is a perfect texture and consistency - with two coats, I had a nice opaque colour. It does take at least two coats, though, if you want a seamless, solid, bold colour.

Hope you all had a lovely Monday!

Haullll

Over the last couple of weeks I've bought a couple skirts and dresses at the Garage, and I thought I would share.

Close-up of the buttons on the front
I bought this skirt at the Garage for $30. It comes in a lot of cute patterns - I was torn between this one and a dark burgundy one - and is very comfortable and fun to wear! It has an elastic waist and button detailing on the front.

I also bought this summer dress for I believe $30 as well. It has pockets! It's length is about mid-thigh, and it's super comfortable, so I'll be wearing it lots. The pattern is little blue, white, and pink flowers, if you're having difficulty telling from the picture. Honestly, though, the pockets were the main selling point for me!

I also finally found a good pair of black flats, though that isn't nearly as exciting as buying dresses and skirts. I found a good pair at Payless shoes for around $25.

I've been working a lot more since the start of summer, and while that's been tiring, it's also been pretty great getting my paychecks. Hopefully more shopping soon!
